The "One Laptop Per Child" project has a great device ready to ship, but there's no Java on there. Let's think about working together to put Java on OLPC!
How did you first get involved with Eclipse, and how long ago?
At SAS Institute, a little over two years ago, it was decided that further work on our internally developed Java IDE should be dropped in favor of building the functionality we needed on top of Eclipse. My area of responsibility with this IDE was server-side development, so it made sense to start getting involved with
WTP
, which was a new project at the time.
What Eclipse-related projects are you working on and what are you doing?
Having been a release manager for Tomcat 3.3, my contributions to WTP is primarily to its Tomcat support. To date, more of my available cycles have been spent in helping out on the Web Tools new group, though I'm starting to catch up with respect to committed code.
What's your favourite feature/plugin (commercial or open source)?
I would have to say that having moved from our internally developed IDE to Eclipse, I have come to appreciate the all the benefits offered by
JDT
. I wasn't aware of what I was missing.
Are you attending EclipseCon or giving a talk this year?
I will be attending EclipseCon this year.
Lastly, how do you see yourself in the Eclipse community, and why should people vote for you?
A lot of my available time last year was spend addressing bugs and trying to be helpful on the Web Tools news group. With respect to bugs, I've tried to be consistent about diagnosing problems to the point of offering some sort of patch, including areas outside of what I am familiar with. My work with Tomcat 3.3 made me aware of the work load that bug reports consisting just a brief description of a symptom can create. More recently, I've been able to begin larger scale changes in the Tomcat support in WTP that will help improve it's flexibility and keep it up to date with current Tomcat releases.
EclipseZone would like to thank those that took part, and please remember to
vote for the individual awards
prior to the closing date of February 16th 2007.
